I did look for some good foliage pics on the NARGS and SRGC sites. Didn't find any of venustus, only one good one of another species that shows a lot of affinity to yours, but can't say for sure.

The second round feature of the NARGS seed ex is really nice. When I'd like to try something choice, but don't foresee good success, I wait until the second round so people who want it more than me will get it. Then, if it is still available I don't feel like I am hogging the good stuff. So anyway, after cutting down an ash tree that shaded the south side of my house (it would have succumb to the Emerald Ash borer), I now have a hot spot protected from rain by the house eve. A perfect place for my cactus and to try the Calochortus. I got several species from the second round seed ex to try. They are planted and in the fridge now, but I don't expect germination for another month...
