I know that is a BIG difference but Ann, I think you have the right plant; it just needs more time to settle and look that way. If you really doubt it is then I would send the photo to Nicole and ask her about it.

All of the Lambertson daylilies here have so much more color than Luddy has in his photos so it could be your soil, etc making it that way. Also, a lot of blooms here are darker to begin with and then get to looking more like they should on later blooms or even rebloom.
