Shirlee, I assume it's the combo of things. I use alfalfa pellets, chicken litter (the dry, processed kind), slow release fertilizer mixed in the pine bark/sand planting mix. I also rotate fertilizing with Daniels Plant Food and miracle-Gro water soluable fertilizer.
