As for the food issue, it drives me crazy to see good scraps actually go into a trash can (where it'll find its way to a landfill). It just feels so phenomenally wasteful. A watermelon rind is so valuable for compost (especially vermicompost!) and failing that, as extra food for the chickens of hogs. This is why everyone who has any space at all should keep a compost pile (if they grow a garden) and/or a laying hen or two, in my opinion. Smiling
