Kathleen, yes, it would have been funny to watch. Obviously they don't take you seriously. You could take along a little pill bottle of pepper, and when they get close, breathe some of it and sneeze at them. Or, tie a plastic grocery bag to a long stick and wave it at them when they get too close.
Our car was badly wounded by a deer darting in front of it yesterday. It just came out of nowhere as they often do. The deer was thrown up and sideways, but limped off using all 4 legs. Thank God it wasn't directly in front of me because that could have sent it through the windshield. Repair shops love deer, me, not so much.
