Just a word of caution here: You can soak your new own-root roses and roses grafted onto Dr. Huey as long as you want, but don't do that with roses from Canada or Florida. Multiflora and Fortuniana don't like being soaked. Hortico, in fact, warns that its bare-root roses (grafted onto Multiflora rootstock) should not be soaked for more than 20 minutes and it further warns against using clear water, specifying that the water should be muddy.
