Mary, ouch. glad no one was hurt, except the deer, of course. Melissa was saying yesterday that someone told her he'd given a ride home to one of his volley ball players who lived out this way years ago and at least 7 different kinds of animals ran out in front of him on the way. I think the scariest thing I ever had run out into the road was a black bear. Fortunately, it was on the open side of the road going to the woods on the other side and we could see it coming. Bears don't look both ways, nor do they slow down!

I've sneezed at heifers, but they were decidedly unimpressed. It used to make sense that they followed me - I fed them, but these girls don't really know me. I guess I just look friendly.

Yesterday, every time Stan went out to rake up the hay that was mowed the day before, it would shower. The last time, he just kept raking. He chopped up 3 loads, one before supper and two after. Melissa called and wondered if we could come up for supper. It was Erin's 7th birthday and she was feeling that there hadn't been much made of it. I made a graham cracker crumb no bake chocolate cookie cake with totally melted frosting letters that said Happy Birthday Erin. I didn't have any cocoa so I used baking chocolate and 1/2 the butter. I can't use peanut butter so I threw in about 3/4 of a cup of chocolate chips. I used old fashioned oats in the cookies, broke some graham crackers up in the bottom of the pan, poured the hot cookies over it and Erin said it was the best birthday cake ever. She's not really a very tough critic - if it's chocolate, it's good. I told her I'd write down the recipe and call it Erin's No Bake Graham Cracker Crumb Birthday Cake.
