Natalie, is this your first season in Idaho? If so, you may be pleasantly surprised to see what grows on its own in your wild areas. We quit running livestock on our property several years ago and each year I see more native plants getting a foothold on their own. I continue to try to encourage more by sowing wild flower seed, and like you, I'm a bit impatient in that department.
I hope you find the offending trees are on your property, or can perhaps get permission to remove from the owners if not. Selectively opening views can be inspiring.
