joann, with these beauties you have to do a trial and error to see what survives. For me it is the villosas and try not to buy many developed by Terra Nova. It is what I experienced. I lost many. So start small and research, research ask questions and more questions.
At this point I seem to do better if they are grown in pots. I am trying coir pots in the garden so they look like they are planted in the garden but are really in pots.
As far as color I garden in a different climate than Spring so dark ones do not disappear in the winter for me they stand out against the snow.
I have Carmel in a lot of sun and it is great in my garden. It would look good with a orange rose with purple. You would have color after the rose is done blooming and I think it would make the rose pop when in bloom.
If you like Caramel you might like Southern Comfort more. It has larger leaves and it is good in the sun. As a matter of fact it seems to do better in my garden if I have it in the sun. In the shade it did not do well.
Southern Comfort and a good purple Heuchera might make a good compliment with your peach rose and when the rose is not blooming you would still have your peach/purple garden color.
