I wonder if you can try amaryllids..I have tried growing an amaryllis in a glass container with hydroton rocks & gel beads indoors by the window, so far it has survived, not sure though if you like to put hydroton rocks in your nice upper display. The location of the sun would surely work well too when it is just growing foliage after the bloom season. Then nice blooms for spring. Smiling
