Hey everybody....
My name's Mike and I live in the arctic armpit of the lower 48 states, Duluth, MN. Been growing pachypodiums, cacti and a couple euphorbias for maybe 20-some years and got a seedling A. obesum on Ebay a couple years back from a Hawaiian grower/seller. Was told it was from seeds of "Black Fire"---my profile photo shows the first flower from it--it's a very nice RED with darker edges here and there, so not TOO far off from some variations of Black Fire that I've seen. This was the very first bloom from this plant ever and I've been told successive blooms should be better....and open more fully.
So now I've got well over 100 little adenium seedlings, most were sown May 28 of this year--almost all are arabicums and Thai socotranums but I have some obesums as well. Have noticed that the arabicums and socos are both bigger and faster growers than obesums that were sown 2 weeks earlier. Most of my seeds have come from Thai sources, a few from Britain, and I'm awaiting some from Mr. Ko in Taiwan. Also have ordered some young plants as well, a few grafted obesums and an arabicum from Taiwan and 2 Thai socos and a grafted obesum from Thailand....as well as another arabicum seedling from here in the US.
Since our "summer" leaves a LOT to be desired so far in terms of higher temps and sunlight I've been running my seedlings outside most days and back inside at sunset--hopefully July and August will be more summer-like. Then I have to look into getting the best lights I can get on my budget for when they all come back inside in early Sept. Having lots of fun reading on the various adenium forums....and drooling over the photos, especially some posted on Facebook! Anyway....hope to learn much more and contribute whatever I can along the way....
