Hm, I've never germinated any brom seeds Carol, but other things that set seeds, if I don't know what to do with them, I try to duplicate where they would naturally germinate 'in the wild' so to speak.
So I'd be inclined to use some of the leafy duff or bark near where the mother plant is growing, put it in a flat in the shade with some screening over it, (to keep the birds from eating the seed) and mist it every day if it doesn't rain. An alternative would be a very loose bed of sphagnum, kept barely moist.
Mind you, with our humidity here in summer, just about anything will germinate. I wonder if they need a cool dry period (like winter) before they will germinate? You could try that with some of the seed. Got a friend with A/c? I know a lot of you lucky Hawaiians don't use it.
