Hubby has been cutting hay for our neighbor, came in early today because the swather broke down, again. It's old, old, old. Always something going wrong with it, and as a matter of fact, with everything else he (neighbor) owns. Frustrating, but it is not our problem.

There are lots of rattlesnakes in the fields and on the roads this year, more than usual because of our extremely dry winter and spring. Their food moved out of the dry hills to water sources, and of course the snakes followed them. And then we had a lot of rain and now it is harder to see them since the grass and everything is growing really fast with the heat. Sometimes they get wet from the sprinklers, making wet rattles that do not rattle even if the snake is trying to warn us. We have to be very watchful.

Our neighbor weaned his lambs yesterday and moved the ewes to our place. By this time many of the ewes had already weaned their lambs, so there wasn't a lot of complaining from the ewes, but the lambs are noisy. They are half a mile away, upwind from the ewes, so if the ewes answer, the lambs are not as likely to hear them.

I need to get more garlic out of the ground this week. Yesterday the soil was still too wet to clean itself off the roots easily. Another 95 degree day or two will help. I have dug some and rinsed the soil off with the hose. Much easier to just give the plants a hard shake and a quick brushing off with my hand.

This morning I mowed the lawn while it was cool, and now have a nice big wheelbarrow full of clippings for the vegie garden.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
