I just make a shallow furrow with my hoe, about an inch or two deep, put the onion sets into it about 6 inches apart with the root end down, and sort of firmly, then fill in the soil, pat it down with the back of the hoe and water it if the soil is dry. I have clay soil, it makes some hard lumps, so making a trench is easier for me than making little holes.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
