I have been hybridizing for about 15 years and most plants it doesn't bother. You will get a plant once in awhile that will not bloom as well the following year if you set too many pods on it but most of the time I don't really notice anything really significant.

Primal Scream is an excellent daylily, it is one of my favorites as is Old King Cole, Abbot's Magic, Pastel Classic and American Revolution. Most of these are older daylilies and I could list a whole lot more of the older and inexpensive ones that do really well. As far as some of the newer ones, that I have, Heartbeat of Heaven is an excellent plant, as is Destined to See, Darla Anita, Evermore Lights, Galaxy Explosion, Maxfield Parrish, and Sexy Sally. I don't have any real new 2012 or 13 plants that I can evaluate or comment on at this time. I really like a daylily that looks very showy in a clump and stands out in the garden.
