No need to remove them from the pot if you are bringing them indoors. Digging is only to protect them from the cold when they are in the ground. From what I have read they usually don't do well indoors because they need high humidity which may be difficult in a home heated for the winter, plus the tubers probably should be allowed to rest for the winter.
