Years ago, back when we still had a dog, one day she went nuts by my open bag of potting soil in the garage. I looked in and there was a "dead" baby possum. I took the bag outside and poured the possum out on the driveway. It played dead for about another hour and when it thought nobody was looking, it got up and ran up a tree. Later that evening it came down and ran in the road and got run over. No doubt that it was dead after that.
