Mike, I live in the tropics and they grow all year here, they bloom all year as well but most have fewer blooms when the days are a little shorter. It's either the day length or the slightly cooler temps at night. We never get much below 65°F at night and usually it is closer to 70°F in the winter. Temps in the day are generally in the 80's in winter, 90's in summer but the humidity is much higher in the summer. Day length doesn't change as much but moves between 11 hours and 13 hours winter to summer.
A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.
