I would think spider plants should enjoy your area....could be watering, if you say you may have overwatered..or maybe make your soil more fast draining if it is prone to overwatering. I grow my plants outdoors in hanging containers all year long, and can't seem to have enough water, but it has always been drier here too.
Or maybe use pots a size smaller, since the plants love being pot bound anyways.
