I'm not up on caterpillars; but if I were pressed, I'd guess it might be a tomato horn worm. They can get to four, maybe six inches long. And they do it by eating foliage.

If you are very lucky, maybe it will help you with your weeding! But whatever it is, I kinda doubt it's a good guy.
