I agree, at your age, you have decades of interesting plants ahead of you, and, I think, the love and talent to do great "plant things" someday. You already know more important stuff than I did (at a much older age too,) from the internet, without having to kill a ton of plants to learn a few things at all. If somebody has one, especially somewhere in the same country, there's no reason you shouldn't either, someday. It can happen, you don't know where you'll go, or who you'll meet out there in life.

More unusual plants can be found at mom'n'pop stores where somebody there loves house plants. Botanical gardens sometimes have sales of things they propagate. Trading/for postage in the mail, as you know, is a great way to get cool stuff. So many 'annuals' can make great house plants. Swaps! Soon you'll be able to drive yourself to something like that, those are a blast!
The golden rule: Do to others only that which you would have done to you.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. (-Unknown)

Try to be more valuable than a bad example.
