It's normal .. you can cut off the pods so the plant can put its energy into making more flowers .. I usually cut off all but a few of the spent flowers and let the plant grow a few pods for seeds. It takes a lot of energy out of a plant to reproduce .. so you probably want to save a few of the brown cracked ones and cut off all the rest.
