>> I used to work for a fairly large (100,000 circ.) newspaper but got laid off when it started to dwindle. Internet.

Years ago, I used to get aggressive sales calls trying to get me to subscribe to a paper. Finally he said "well, where DO you get your important news from?!?"

I said "the Internet". He hung up and never called back.

TV "news" turned into entertainment decades ago (very bad "entertainment" in my opinion).

A high school friend's father used to work for CBS or NBC News back when they had reporters, correspondents and analysts. They presented NEWS on TV that was fact-checked and even thoughtful. I know it's hard to believe, but it was back in the 60s or 70s.

He finally quit in disgust and would rant and rail about it at the drop of a hat.

In civics class, they taught that an active, free press was vital to a democracy - maybe that's one of our root problems. I think most of the Internet is more like drunks arguing at a bar than it is "news", but some sites do have some content.

I get most of my news filtered through the Daily Show. I don't think I'm missing much!
