Any of the laminated tapes should hold up (at least according to the Brother website) outdoors.

I used the software they included with the label maker to print the one I showed (only because I wanted to have different sizes of font) on their 0.94 inch tape. Not all of their labelers will take that size tape. I learned this the hard way by not paying attention and buying one that didn't. I began looking when I decided I wanted to redo all the labels on the plants I am keeping and moving with me to include some additional information.

Using the label maker you should be able to just hit 'enter' and do a carriage return to start a new line of text. You will likely need to decrease the font size in order to have it fit on the label. If the font size is too large it will simply refuse to print.
