I love this idea! I do it too but my wildlife are quite different to yours. Water in my garden ranges from the big dam through medium ponds to birdbaths and small dishes, and they all get used. The biggest 'pond' is actually a childrens plastic sandpit/paddling pool they used to use when little and now is used by me to keep potted waterplants in till I plant them in other ponds or bogs. It recently had a kangaroo hop in to have a bath! My smaller planted ponds suit the little birds better than the birdbaths, which the larger parrots and magpies prefer. The smaller containers get used by lizards, and the frogs are in all of them, including the water space under the waterwell (wicking) pots.
