I FORCE my colocasia dormant, that's half the charm!

No way I could store all my tender tropicals if I didn't!

Not all colocasia will make a bulb in one short northern, there are even a few that don't readily ever make a bulb! But colocasia esculenta, in all it forms, varieties, hyrbids or cultivars is a bulb makin machine! Esculenta hybrids and the like account for 90% of colocasia in cultivation.

They are grown specifically throughout the tropics for this bulb alone, it's a staple food crop, tropical taters, if you will!

While it can be a little for some people to store them dormant, truly, nothing could be more simple...I'm slowly composing an article detailing how its done, free times not abundant right now...

In short, pots are IDEAL, just with hold water, once the plants ratty, and giving out, remove the leaves, and simply stick it out of way, a closet, under the house, under the sink, an attached shed or garage, even the attic if you must...
Just make sure that the soils good and dry!
It can be tough as fall can be rainy and cool, plants left out this time of the year don't always dry out so nice!
So they may need to spend some time inside.

One thing that really seems to help with dryness is having the plant root bound and under potted!
Excess soil that's not got roots in it can stay wet a long time...

You can knock the pot off the root ball and leave it unpotted too, it's messy! But drys well!

With my large bulbs that i dig from the yard I often store them dry on a shelf, it's easy to inspect them...the smaller ones get packed in loose dry peat moss, they should all be cleaned and dried first!

Dry is VERY important!

That's wasn't so short...
Please tree mail me for trades, I'm ALWAYS actively looking for more new plants, and love to trade!
