I thought I have bought an excessive amount of irises. But considering that I am 75, single, still working for the government--yes, it is shutdown now, and I only have 1/8 of an acre, minus my house and deck, it is a still a lot of irises, plus I have previous planted irises too. I saw some of the irises that I would like to have, but are either not available, or too expensive. I wanted Light Within and some others--

I bought from several places. And I have NEVER bought so many---

About lawn. I do not have a lawn. I have hired a company 2 years ago to cover all except the ones with roses and irises with weed barrier and mulch, so I do not have a lawn to mow. Guess what? My neighbor in the back of my house has 1 butterfly bush, Buddleja, and I had to pull so many volunteers, it was not funny. I gave about 6 plants to friends who wanted them and managed to get rid of the rest after a big storm, they were all growing among my roses, no weed barriers there. Now I recognize the very young ones, and pulled them out. Both my neighbors left and right of me have Crepe Mytles, and they also think my mulched ground is nice, so I had to pull lots and lots of volunteers. Maybe I have pulled 500 or more. I still have some left. I did not see them, so they grew too big, have to wait for a lot of rain to be able to pull them out. I also have from my right neighbor, Rose of Sharon and Black Walnuts. The squirrels are very busy finding the nuts and planting them. I have collected a bucket and offered them to the owner of the tree, and he said, SOME People eat them, but I don't. Almost all the nuts fall on my property. And the rose of sharon bushes are the worst, because they are all leaning towards the sun, which is on my side (because he has that big crepe myrtle) and seeded a lot of plants that I also have to pull out. What really helps, is the weed barrier, so most of them are easy to pull out, because the roots are shallow. The ones that are harder to pull out are the ones that grow in the soil withour the weed barriers.--Then my neighbor to my left has a huge maple tree which also gave lots of little ones on my property. That is the problem living so close to the neighbors.

I am proud to say that I have been weeding and planting myself, except deep holes for the roses. I hired a young strong son of a friend to do 6 of them for me after I had done 9 myself over several weeks. Another problem with the holes for the roses are the big pieces of concrete debris that a construction worker had buried in the ground instead of dumping them away from the property. He also pulled the weed barriers away and added sphagnum moss and Promix for me. Piece of cake for him. Fortunately irises are easier to plant. Nobody told me to buy all those roses and irises! All my fault. Now I have to do some weeding too. Some of my roses did not make it this year--not enough sun and not enough water, under those rose of sharon. I have to cut those branches over my properties.----

Sorry it is such a long tale.
