I keep getting conflicting info. Some people say that you can divide salvias. Some people say you can't. I have a MASSIVE purple rain salvia that I really want to divide. But, at the same time, I don't want to kill it. The plant spreads about.. 6? 7? feet (yes, FEET). Damned thing is HUGE and has eaten an area. I read the tag when I bought it, the tag said 24". Uh, it gets 2ft TALL, but now that it's so big, it just kinda sprawls around.

Can I divide it? How do I divide it? I've never divided ANYTHING.. not even a daylily. I don't want to kill it, but, at the same time, it can't be where it's at at that size. It buried 2.5 roses (Henry Fonda & Ruby Ruby were completely engulfed, Betty Boop was taller but her undersides were covered), and I don't think my stonecrop survived being buried by the salvia (I have/had 2 "dragon's blood" stonecrops, but both are missing under all the salvia.. not sure if 1 survived).

Help?

Here's a pic of it this "spring" (July). It's way bigger now.

Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet...
