Not really, it is more clay like. I know we had ice a couple times last year on my fish ponds. We got snow last year too. I've had them in the ground four or five years. They are completely covered. I'm experimenting with one in a pot that is partially sunmerged in soil. It is just sitting there I see no large amount of growth.
