Always plant the daylilies first. The daylilies are the structure of the bed, they are always there. The bulbs are only visible in the spring.

I like to put daffs in back of daylilies or if I have a daylily bed with multiple rows, then I often put daffs in between the clumps of daylilies in the last row. Tulips I just put either between daylily clumps pr between rows or both.

When I say first, after you have all your daylilies in then you can immediately put bulbs in, no reason you need to wait at that point.

My soil is really good. If I am making a new bed then compost is always good. And I mulch everything. I use fall leaves or bales of straw to mulch my daylily beds.
