Jay, I considered that too, but apparently not as much as pushing through dirt. I've noticed that they tend to break off where they are coming out of the stem and you have to be very careful when you transplant - I've never seen this in roots grown in a denser medium like soil or vermiculite .. those roots are way more pliable.
