I think terraces improve the view most from below, but it sounds like you're at the top of your slope. Probably square wooden beams would make easier terraces than concrete pavers, but the pavers are lighter. Just be sure to lean them "in" enough that wet loose soil doesn't convince them to flop over downhill.

The 12x12" pavers are 1" thick (at my HD), and they are more stable than the 8x16x 3/4" ones. The 12" height also give you more to play with: you could bury 1-1.5" and still lean the paver "in" quite a lot, and still have 8-9" of bed depth at the downhill edge.

I was given a garden statue as a gift, but so far I've been too soft-hearted to put her outside.
