Natalie, in regards to your dad and growing flowers as a diesel mechanic, I could not disagree with you more. As a auto mechanic myself, gardeners come in all shape, sizes, colors, etc,etc,etc,etc...... LOL!! couldn't get "rofl" to load for some reason. I remember as a kid helping my grand mother in her veggie garden. My gardening enthusiasm didn't come till later in life as did your dad. I guess in those earlier years we were too busy with life and not stopping to "smell the roses" so to speak.
