All I know is that as a child, Mom served rutabaga and it smelled awful and was kinda orange. I ate it only if my Dad said I had to.

Turnips were white/green and usually chopped up and served as part of boiled turnip greens. Served with corn. bread really good!!!
As an adult I learned to eat raw turnips and really like them. Have never eaten raw rutabagas.
