blue23rose said:Thanks, Michele! I have my first seeds in the fridge now and did not know they could take up to three months to germinate. I definitely would have given up if they hadn't germinated before then. Since I only know the pod parent, I guess I really don't know if they will be dormant or not.

I have read that some seeds have taken up to 6 months to germinate.

You never know if the seeds are dormant or not; it is different than the dormancy of the plant; dormant parents does not necessarily equal dormant seeds. One reason I don't cold stratify my seeds is because I can plant the seeds and have most of them sprout in a less time frame than if I were to store them in the fridge in a moist environment for 3-8 weeks and then move them to room temp to germinate which still can take up to a month on some so I just plant them directly from the pod and most will germinate in the time frame I said above.

Now if I am not ready to plant the seeds I will stick them in the fridge to store them until I am ready. And if I were going to plant later in the year or the following spring I would most likely store them in the fridge but I have the advantage of being able to plant them as soon as harvested here.
