Ours survived to 15F in the ground without mulch. We had below 10F this fall for several nights and many bulbs and plants died in the ground, even lilies. We no longer mulch due to the high cost of wood byproducts and that keeps going up. Mulch would have saved some things but it is a good thing to have them out of the way now.
