In the country here, there's garbage pickup (if you pay for it), but no recycling whatsoever. I can take aluminum cans to the Lakehills garbage place (and throw the bag over the fence, since it's hardly ever open) or donate them to an organization in Pipe Creek (they sometimes accept abandoned pets and they try to find new owners for them). Newspapers I occasionally take to school recycling dumpsters in Helotes or San Antonio. Most of the Targets in San Antonio have containers in the store so people can turn in aluminum cans, plastic, glass and certain other items. I compost what I can of the compostable stuff.
BTW, some people in the country burn all their household garbage, including some things that emit toxic fumes into the air. People can develop all kinds of medical problems from breathing those toxic fumes, not to mention that the soil where it's burned can be contaminated. I talked to one lady at a recent plant swap who admitted she burns her garbage. I think a lot of people just don't realize how dangerous it is to burn certain kinds of household garbage.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White
Integrity can never be taken. It can only be given, and I wasn't going to give it up to these people. Gary Mowad
