How does buying seeds work? I have never done it. I was all eyes on the other thread. Do you know the parents? I assume none of them would be registered varieties even if they they looked like them after growing and flowering? They would actually be seedling numbers? Do you wait for the flower wondering what magnificence is going to bloom. And sometimes it does? Then do you cull? If you do, how do you learn to be tough?
I do hybridise. I have been concentrating on flower form in yellows. My philosophy has been one of deconstruction. So far my results suggest that either I or my seedlings should be shot.
Earl Barfield flowered double today - at last. I am not sure I like it. Looks like a vegetable casserole I make. Am I unfair? Last year I remember some of the blooms were quite lovely. Some daylily plants are temperamental. One has to follow them all through all their flowering to see them at their best.....
