One little tip that I have learned is to make sure any "failed stalks" get removed before winter. I had several this last year ,and didn't remove them till early spring, when I cleaned the bed, and found a soft, rotten mess at the attachment point. It didn't appear to be the dreaded "soft rot", but it was a rotten mess. So even if you don't trim the leaves this year, be sure to get those stalks outta' there!...Arlyn
