Bud caps! Now I have a name for them. It makes sense that things are especially brittle this year - the LAs especially snap a tepal if you look sideways at them - but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a shared bloodline making both Loreto and Gran Paradiso particularly susceptable to a little (or much!) increased turgor.
