pirl said:Susan - she only took two Japanese maples with her. We had dug up so many plants but she couldn't see herself planting in the snow so she left them behind. The big kicker was, the people who bought the house do not garden at all and they want a pool even though it's just a summer weekend home.

I sent her a big chunk of Sum and Substance, her favorite hosta here in Southold. She had to pot it up because there, just like here, they have deer! I doubt she'll want to fight the deer problem again.

I have moved twice since I started gardening. The first time was a heart break. I downsized from four acres to a quarter acre!! But I was in an unbearable situation that I had to get out of. So it wasn't all bad. I brought as many plants as I could.

The second move was better! But I spent two days digging up plants with the help of my mom. Then it took another 5 days to replant them all at the new place. I made sure in the contract for the house that the closing had to happen before Sept 20th so my plants could get in in time. Two of the days of planting were in the pouring rain. But I had no choice. I got super lucky and that first winter was amazingly mild! I only lost two plants I think.
