[quote="abhege"]Susan, I'm not sure why you think you would have to dig dahlias? I lived in MD and never had to dig them. Are you sure?
@abhege
How long did you have them?? We had Canna Lily's for quite a while then a dip in temps killed them.
I haven't had very many dahlias in the past. I think I had three the year before and they did not come back. None have never come back, mostly they rot. I have learned that most people dig them up but if you don't have to that is great. Even though we are in zone 8, sometimes our weather acts more like zone 7 and at other times it acts like zone 9, so it is only average temps they are calculating. Because of these sudden dips in temperatures, I will loose my zone 8 plants. It is very tricky because if I buy for zone 7, I will loose some plants too because they do not get a long enough cold spell. We do dip down, just not long enough for some dormants. LOL.
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Mat.6:28-29
