My preference is to be able to devote most of the budget to new additions, not replacements, to have the most overall diversity. I don't buy many, if any, plants that are true annuals because my plan is always to keep plants indefinitely. I'm going to spend the same money, no matter what survives over winter inside or out, so have honed what I spend on over the years.
