Ok, so I a little late coming to this conversation. :). I love this climber. I had a variegated one once, but in a winter greenhouse catastrophe several years back I lost it along with about 500 other plants.
Elaine, many plants that are grown in shade will burn if suddenly pushed into full or high sun - even if they prefer full sun. The current leaves just aren't accustomed to the direct sun. But if you slowly accustom a sun-loving (but shade grown) plant to direct sun, the new growth will take it much more in stride and be able to handle the direct sun without burning.
