P.S. If you have gardening neighbors and want them to owe you favors, start 3 times as many seeds as you will need. Keep the best seedlings for your garden.

Then offer to give away dozens of seedlings in 4" pots or 2 liter soda bottles with the tops cut off. Stretch out your potting mix by adding an equal volume of shredded pine bark (clean bark mulch or nuggets with anything over 1/4" or 1/2" screened out).


If your neighbors don't garden yet, plant extra plants and give away tomatoes and cut flowers. It's good to be appreciated, especially if your garden is not always tidy, or there's a fussy neighborhood association.
