Bert, I've had sheaths like that sit on the plant for a month or two, even drying out and turning brown sometimes, then one day, Voila! They produce a flower stem. I learned the hard way not to ever cut them off!

Yes, I've deployed the big tent in the back yard, and am ready for low temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. Let's hope it doesn't stay cold for too long, we've had such a great winter so far . . .
