Fred, maybe my hosta routine would apply to daylilies as well.

If your pots are not frozen in place, turn them on their side ASAP. Thusly, before thawing starts, no liquid will accumulate on the surface of the pot. Plus, as thawing continues, there is no accumulation of water.

That is how I avoid rot on my potted hostas, over 1,000 pots, very small to rather large.
