Gymgirl, I would think that heat would be the least of your problems. My daughter lives outside of Houston 20 miles from Katy and would like to grow things but she has a lot to learn. I am no help as my growing conditions are absolutely wrong for her area. My plant out day is usually Memorial Day or (June 1) also. But you can sow seeds especially under row covers much earlier for hardier stuff. I just put begonias into pots as you have to start them now to have flowers in the summer. buying begonia plants at the nursery would break the bank.
