Cool photo of the Cooper's Hawk in the snow ... sad but yeah, they have to eat too. I walked out on my back porch about an hour ago with the dog and startled a hawk that had taken a pigeon ... must have been an immature hawk because it took off and dropped the pigeon into the water; I don't think the poor pigeon was quite dead because it was moving for a few seconds before apparently drowning. Sad The hawk flew back and swooped down but took off again and I'm sure found it's dinner somewhere else. It's 82ºF here and lots and lots of green shrubbery for the small birds to hide in. What surprises me is that a lot of the Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds perch on the power lines and don't seem intimidated by the hawks at all; possibly because they know there are hundreds of doves and smaller birds for the hawks to take.

Love that cute little purple finch!!
