I remember the winter of '78; and it was likely the worst ever in my lifetime seconded by this one up here in '14! Back then I was working 2nd shift when the "blizzard of '78" blew in during the afternoon and evening. I remember leaving work at 11:00 pm in my '77 Ford pickup (2 wheel drive) and it seems I pushed snow for 14 miles. I was lucky to fall in behind an 18-wheeler out on the highway following it all the way to my exit. I kept my foot on the gas all the way to my drive still pushing snow. The engine stalled just inside the drive at almost midnight. That was the worst "white knuckle" drive I can recall. (Or ever want to.)
I am fascinated with the birds that come and feed here during this frigid, relentless weather. Like Sharon we cannot reach the feeders because of drifts and ice. However, the birds are just as happy to eat from the clear areas and shoveled paths. We toss it out by handfuls. I am happy to know the beautiful Cardinals (Indiana & KY state bird) are alive and well! Thanks Sharon for sharing with us. And be well!
